The Art of the Invitation


When designers are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to put on a show for fashion week, they want to make sure that every aspect of the experience honors the brand and reflects its message. The art of the invitation is very important for a show because:

A) It is the first point of contact between your label and the invitee (buyer, editor, celebrity).

B) Design is all about attention to detail. So if your invitation is shoddy, the audience will be expecting a mess.

The New York Times did an amazing expose this past fall on fashion week invitations with graphic designer Patrick Li, who has done work for Jason Wu, Phillip Lim, and Alexander Wang. I especially love his anecdote about his treatment of the cardstock for the Rodarte show.

    There are a number of designers that sell their party invitation sets for an expensive price, but many are affordable. Fashion Magazine
