I have never had the opportunity to see the formation of a small apparel business. Design, financing, distribution– I cannot imagine having to do it all from scratch.

My personal friend, Matt VosBurgh, and his constituents have founded Bakline, a line of apparel for men and women derived from the sport of rugby (for you non-rugby players out there, “back line” refers to a zone on the field). I feel that the brand is taking on a Nike-esque tone, offering customers a beginner’s guide to the rules of the game. Matt said that authenticity is the key. And being an avid rugby player himself, he knows what his customer is looking for when it comes to design, fit, and feel.

Bakline also offers in-house design services for clients and is currently fundraising for earthquake victims in Haiti.
